about

J Beatz and Spooky join forces to give you the ‘Maggie’ EP. It’s set to be another busy year for both producers so it’s no surprise that the work-rate from them isn’t stopping.

The EP starts off with ‘Maggie’, a synth infused banger. With thunderous claps, rampant drums and deft snares aplenty in the beat, this metronomic production, a collaboration between the two producers starts the EP off with a bang.

Next is ‘Ponders End’, another joint effort from the duo. With more claps and a monsterous bassline, ‘Ponders End’ like ‘Maggie’ has that metronomic, marching feel to the instrumental. There are some real heavy-hitting sounds littered across the track, this is a track full of conviction and purpose.

The two producers are so adept in their productions skills that they have each got one production of their own making in this EP. J Beatz’s track is his remix of Spooky’s ‘Firing Range’ which has J Beatz’s trademark gritty funk ingrained in the riddim. ‘Firing Range’ will instantly energise any room that it’s playing in. Having gunshots in the riddim against the jittery sounding strings is the perfect excuse to buss out the gunfingers, better watch your heads when this track is playing.

The final track on this engrossing EP is Spooky’s remix of ‘Sargent’, with a bit of help courtesy of the movie ‘Full Metal Jacket’, Spooky puts his spin on J Beatz’s original beat. The high-tempo nature of the riddim certainly perks up the EP with some impressive production skills at work, Spooky has layered the track with all sorts of musical goodness.

J Beatz and Spooky are both highly skilled producers with respected reputations. Anyone doubting their abilities are gravely mistaken as their ‘Maggie’ EP proves that they’ve got patterns for days in the beatmaking world.
